Obagi: The skincare brand favoured by celebritiesJune 4, 2021
By Sarah Blake
Few failed to be wowed by pictures in the media earlier this year of Judy Murray looking at least ten years younger. How on earth could anyone emerge for a year of lockdowns looking so darn incredible?
Granted, (glorious!) grace periods were given between the peaks of the pandemic, which allowed for in-clinic aesthetic procedures. Of which Mrs Murray, like many of us, made the most of. But what of the months and months (and months and months) of clinic closures? Surely such radical results required regular treatment over a prolonged period of time?
Cue a prescribed protocol of skincare. More specifically, all hail Obagi. The pioneering medical-grade skincare is an industry leader, having led transformative research and advancements in scientifically proven skincare for 33 years. Judy is believed to have been prescribed Obagi’s Nu-Derm System, and said: “’I had six different things to do on a daily basis in the morning and in the evening. I started just before lockdown . . . and I stuck with it.”
Call us smug, but as uber-fans of Obagi, we weren’t surprised to learn that their clinical-quality formulations have played a leading-role in Murray’s metamorphosis. Beloved of celebrities and mere mortals across the globe, Obagi has an unrivalled reputation in the field of dermatology and is recommended by top skin care professionals and aestheticians the world over.
Five A-list celebrities to who use Obagi
The 46-year-old Hollywood actress credits her youthful complexion with, amongst other things, use of the best skincare from, of course, Obagi. Posting on her Instagram, Drew said: “I am a long-time fan of @obagimedical. The whole line and collection has been around for many many years, and it is a staple of dermatologists . . .seek it out and see if there is anything that is suitable for you. Skin is so important for me and this powerful but attainable line is very effective!”
Winner of a phenomenal 15 Grammy awards, the stunning singer-songwriter boosts a flawless complexion and famously revealed in Vanity Fair that Obagi is her skincare of choice. After going make-up free on the red-carpet at the VMAS, she wrote that it was “the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt”.
American actress Sofia Carson, who plays Evie in The Descendants movies and Ava in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, reminds us that you can never be too young (or too old!) to benefit from an effective skincare regime. Speaking to People magazine, Sofia said: “All my creams are Obagi.”
Priyanka Chopra Jonas
In 2019, Indian actress, and wife of Nick Jonas, Priyanka Chopra Jonas teamed up with Obagi to launch SKINCLUSION; advocating the importance of diversity in skincare, Priyanka said: “Obagi is a brand that my dermatologist would recommend, so there was an immediate faith in that . . .they analysed my skin and recommended products that worked for me . . .I wanted to be associated with the brand because I could turn around and say the products will work with full faith and confidence.”
New York Times best-selling cookbook author and Food Network star, Ayesha Curry is a big fan of Obagi’s CLENZIderm M.D System, swearing by the CLENZIderm Daily Care Foaming Cleanser.
Why Obagi is the number one prescribed skincare brand in the world
Created in 1988 by Doctor Zein E. Obagi, Obagi Medical is a pharmaceutical company that develops and manufactures prescription skin care systems that are formulated to create transformational changes in skin function at a cellular level, to correct and rejuvenate. The medical-grade Obagi treatment systems are suitable for all skin types and tones and focus on a number of specific concerns, including sun damage, dull skin, premature ageing, fine lines, acne, and pigmentation.
The results speak from themselves. And it’s these results, achieved by patients globally, that have propelled Obagi Skincare to the top spot as one of the most recognised and trusted skincare brands in the world.
What is medical-grade skin care?
Good question. With a plethora of terms being bandied around, you’d be forgiven for being confused. From cosmeceutical to clinical, professional to pharmaceutical, medical to mainstream, skincare suddenly doesn’t seem quite so straight-forward.
Medical-grade skincare is pharmaceutically researched and formulated by highly experienced biochemists and physicians. Consequently, it’s made to a much higher standard than over-the-counter or off-the-shelf products, penetrating the skin more efficiently and effectively.
Medical-grade skincare can only be prescribed by a qualified and experienced healthcare practitioner, following a thorough consultation and assessment.
